Walk us through a typical workday. When you start work, what are the first three things you do and why? 

I usually get to the office about 6:30 each morning and start scheduling emails from my meetings from the day prior. If it’s a busy day of outside marketing, I can prep about 20–30 emails each morning.

I am pretty plugged into my phone, so if there’s anything pressing, I get back to clients right away when I get an email. Other than that, I get ready for my day by focusing on where I am going that day, and who I am meeting with.

By the end of the day, what tells you it’s been a good one? 

If I have been able to start my morning early, and get out of the office by 9:30 a.m. If I’ve spent the whole day meeting prospective clients and learning about what we can do to support their business, and then getting back in to the office, hearing that we have filled job orders, and added more job orders to our whiteboards.

What’s the most common challenge that comes up during your day, and how do you respond? 

The most important part of our business is sales, and getting in front of customers. There will always be something that stops you from going out; getting past the thing that holds you back is the biggest challenge.

What goals do you pay closest attention to week to week?

New clients is the biggest metric we focus on—the more clients you add, the more you will get additional job orders, and the more people you can put to work. So the more clients we can get out and visit, the more chances we are creating for calls one, two, six months down the line and hearing, “Hey, you placed someone with us a while back and we need someone new.”

What does being locally owned mean for your community?

Locally owned and operated is something that we lean heavily into. Most of the businesses we work with are small- to medium-sized. The owners grew up in these communities and decided to open a business here.

We are a new Express location, but we are supporting other local businesses with finding reliable, hardworking, compliant, and local people from the community to help support that. Speaking business owner-to-business owner makes it an easy convo because I can say, “I get it, I’ve been there too. Hiring is hard. You focus on your business, let me help with what we do best and help support your business.”

Can you share a story where you saw the impact of your work, whether for a client, job seeker, or your community? 

In our short time being open (since January 2025), we’ve been able to get a lot of good people jobs. Some have made mistakes in their lives, and they just needed an opportunity. We’ve had so many people convert to full time positions and that makes us happy. We get calls all the time that go something like, “We hired Reggie and he is awesome. Can you find me another Reggie?” We’re all here to make a living, but helping people and businesses gives me a satisfaction that I haven’t had in business in the past.

Which parts of the franchise system make the biggest difference each day? 

The ease of having someone who has done it before, and their willingness to say, “I know what you can do.” Also not having to worry about every little thing that comes with business ownership—licensing, certifications, even posters you need to put on a wall—this is all provided from Express.

What advice would you give a business owner who’s looking for a career change and considering franchise ownership? 

This is a sales franchise. Most business owners are knowledgeable about their business, that’s what makes them successful. If you are able to sell, this franchise is one where everything else is secondary to that.
